Why 2-bedroom numbers disagree
There is no Charlotte household survey in the sources used here. A 2-bedroom job can sit in several published bands at once:
- • All My Sons Charlotte (C-601): 2-bedroom home or apartment $1,004–$1,318 (2 movers, 4.1–5.6 hrs), labeled Charlotte branch averages (Charlotte page).
- • Hornet (C-2615): no home-size total. Published hourly $180 / $230 / $350 for 2 / 3 / 4 people (pricing). SAFER listed USDOT 2841083 NOT AUTHORIZED for interstate/HHG on this snapshot (does not apply to private or intrastate).
- • Moving Company HQ national model (not Charlotte): 2 bedrooms $725–$2,450, typical around $1,600 (moving-costs hub). North Carolina has no state hub on that set.
- • NCUC MRT 2.0 regular-time maxima (not a quote): vehicle & 2 / 3 / 4 / 5: $188.40 / $243.30 / $297.90 / $352.95. Hourly applies at 50 miles or less (maxrate.pdf).
Those figures overlap, but they are different publishers with different assumptions. Inventory, stairs, elevator waits, Uptown rush-hour routing, packing, and date will move a written estimate inside — or outside — any of them. Use them to sanity-check quotes, not as a substitute for a written estimate. Do not average them into a fake Charlotte survey.

CDOT ROW Use Permit application and daily fees exist; **dollar amounts are not printed** on the city overview page. Do not treat $390 or $1,640 as a Charlotte average.

NC–SC border A paid household-goods move from Charlotte, NC to Fort Mill, SC or Rock Hill, SC is interstate even if it is short. FMCSA 49 CFR Part 375 applies (written estimate; 110% delivery-day cap on non-binding). An NCUC C-number does not cover a Fort Mill destination as an NCUC-tariff job (MRT Rule 1; 49 U.S.C. § 13501).

Charlotte scale, I-77, and Uptown truck hours
Charlotte city content on this site lists 874,579 residents. Nearby quote areas on that page: Concord, Gastonia, Huntersville, Rock Hill, Matthews. A Charlotte-to-suburb clock is not an Uptown-to-South End clock.
NCDOT I-77 South (South Carolina state line to I-277 / N.C. 16): travel times on that segment range from 10 minutes to nearly an hour depending on the time of day and direction of travel; about 160,000 vehicles a day (NCDOT I-77 South; FAQ). That is the official congestion statement. It is not a priced peak-hour table.
Uptown truck restriction, CDOT permits, meters, and heat
Uptown I-277 / I-77 commercial-vehicle window
It is unlawful to stop, stand, or park a large or medium commercial vehicle on a public street in the area bounded by I-277 and I-77 (Uptown) during rush hours 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (Sec 14-159(b)). Citation $100.00 (Sec 14-61) (Charlotte parking). An Uptown high-rise move that needs a truck on a public street in those hours needs the city variance/permit in § 14-159(c) or must be scheduled outside that window.
CDOT Right-of-Way Use Permit (moving vans)
Anyone wanting to temporarily (more than five minutes and less than 30 days) occupy a traffic lane, planting strip, sidewalk, or any other portion of the public ROW must obtain a Right-of-Way Use Permit from CDOT. Permit examples explicitly include Moving Vans and storage containers/dumpsters. Closures will not be allowed 7–9 a.m. and 4–6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Fees include a non-refundable application fee and a daily fee dependent on the type of closure; dollar amounts are not printed on the overview page (CDOT ROW).
Park It meters
Park It manages on-street parking in Uptown, South End, Elizabeth, NoDa, and Commonwealth Avenue in Plaza Midwood. Parking rates at on-street meters and pay stations are $1.50 per hour (parking). CDOT-issued ROW permits must be displayed on the dash.
Elevators, HOA windows, South End rail work
No citywide loading-dock or elevator-reservation fee schedule for household moves was found on charlottenc.gov. Building rules are property-specific. Ask every company to price the same elevator/parking rules. CATS documents Lynx Blue Line South End station and track work (track-and-systems construction spring 2026–spring 2027; station aimed at 2028) — a route-planning issue, not a city Lynx mover fee (South End Station).
Heat
NWS Charlotte (CLT) 1991–2020 July monthly normal high 90°F; August 88.6°F (CLT July normals; August). Heat is a scheduling factor, not a published Charlotte mover surcharge.
Neighborhood planning questions (not building facts)
Ask the property; do not treat mover checklists as facts about a specific building.
- Uptown / Center City: Ask whether the truck will be on a public street inside the I-277/I-77 loop during 7–9 a.m. or 4–6 p.m. weekdays ($100 citation without a permit), COI additional-insured wording, freight-elevator window, and dock vs curb.
- South End: Ask meter/Park It staging ($1.50/hour), Lynx / Rail Trail construction detours, and elevator reservations.
- NoDa / Plaza Midwood / Elizabeth: Ask Park It meter hours and whether a CDOT ROW permit is needed if the van occupies a lane or curb more than five minutes.
- Dilworth / Wilmore: Ask residential permit-zone guest rules vs a commercial ROW permit; stairs vs elevator.
- Ballantyne / Steele Creek / University City: Ask HOA gate hours and truck size. City Future 2040 plans do not publish mover access fees.
- Fort Mill / Rock Hill (SC): Treat as interstate. Ask for USDOT/MC and a federal written estimate. An NCUC C-number does not cover that destination as an NC tariff job.
