How We Rank Movers

Moving Company HQ ranks movers with a license gate and a customer-experience score. Every scored company in a city guide is measured the same way. The award follows that ranking. Companies cannot buy it.

A ranking is not a bid and not a contract. Get a written estimate before you book.

The license gate

A company is ranked only if the legal name matches an active USDOT (and MC when interstate is claimed), in-state authority matches that same legal name, and the Maps pin used for reviews is that entity.

Fail the gate: also-compared or omit. We do not rank a SAFER NOT AUTHORIZED carrier. We do not blend two pins.

The experience score

Five bars, 0–10, from independently opened Google listings (BBB file if it exists, never a company-site widget):

1. Care (damage, wrapping, walls, furniture)
2. On time
3. Quote matched the bill
4. Friendly
5. Easy to reach (office/crew communication)

Overall score = mean of the five bars, shown as X.XX / 10.

If Maps does not speak to an axis, that bar uses the mean of that same company’s observed bars and is marked inferred. We never impute from another company. We never invent Google stars, review counts, license numbers, NAP, or rates.

Google stars and counts stay on the card as chrome. They are not the rank. Published rates stay as one price line, with the full menu in a disclosure.

How the award works

The Moving Company HQ Best Moving Companies in America award marks the top-ranked mover in a city ranking. It is a label on the published result.

• The badge follows the ranking. It is not a separate paid program.
• Companies cannot buy the award, pay for placement, or license the seal as advertising.
• The award does not guarantee a truck on your date, a final price, or a damage-free move.

City ranking pages keep a local methodology section on the same URL (the #award-methodology anchor).

What a ranking does not do

• It does not replace a written estimate.
• It does not waive state tariff, insurance, or contract rules.
• It does not certify that a license is current on the day you book. Confirm credentials yourself before you sign.
• It does not turn review notes into star ratings or aggregate scores in markup.
• It does not invent 11-point NLP scores or copy another site’s ratings.

Use the ranking to build a shortlist. Then give every company the same addresses, inventory, access notes, and date, and compare the written estimates.
